A City That Grows - Planning, Development and Livable Neighbourhoods

We all understand that our city and neighbourhoods will grow and change over time – but too often our communities face developers who push schemes that are overwhelming and inappropriate. Development must be responsible and respectful of our community. It should happen in a way that gives residents a real voice, preserves the character of our neighbourhoods, protects affordable rental housing and provides for community services and schools to support new and existing residents.

As your Councillor, I will:

  • Help residents understand the development process and engage them in meaningful consultation in all planning and development decisions.

  • Make City Planning communications clearer and more comprehensible for residents.

  • Consult residents on possible investments through “Section 37” community benefits agreements.

  • Protect low-income residents affected by new development by replacing and increasing affordable rental units.

  • Bring together city departments to develop community service plans and funding in areas that anticipate new development before or alongside plans for intensification.

  • Support residents dealing with inappropriate infill development in their neighbourhoods.

  • Ensure heritage preservation is a priority in local development reviews such as on Queen St. E, Kingston Rd. and Danforth Ave.

  • Supporting heritage district studies for unique neighbourhoods such as Queen St. E and Sunshine Valley in Topham Park.

  • Complete the community services plan, along with the planning studies underway for Main and Danforth and implement the Streetscape Masterplan Project for O’Connor Dr.
